Our Daughter Emme: 7 Months
07.18.10

Our second-born daughter Emme Ann just turned 7 months old. I know I've said it before, but I really can't believe how fast time flies. Soon it will be Christmas and she'll be turning one. It's been busy around here with lots of lifestyle sessions and weddings, but I finally have a little breather before my next wedding coming up on 7/24 so I am sharing some of my favorite Emme pictures taken over the past few weeks. Scott and I are so blessed and we just can't get enough of her.
Emme is so easy-going and happy. I plop her in the grass naked in 100 degree weather, and what does she do?? Instantly smiles and turns around for Mommy. :-)
She is so petite, but a little chunker at the same time. I feel so lucky that I'm able to freeze these memories with my camera...
Because Emme is on the move, crawling all over the place, so soon those adorable baby fat rolls will be gone.
This is how she looks when she laughs...
Which she does a LOT of thanks to big sister Elsa. I can hear her now, "Tickle tickle Emme." It melts me.
And this is her newest trick, waving hi.
This is an Emme face and pose we see often. The foot grab and pouty lip.
See, different day, same lip. Love love love.
Emme loves the water, just like her big sis. It doesn't matter whether it's the baby pool in the yard or the big pool in our neighborhood.
Watching these two become best friends before my eyes is the best feeling in the world.
And I'm so thankful for them every day. Thanks to everyone who asked to see pictures of our girls which forced me to get a few edited. Now I can frame some recent ones in our house, including this one for their bathroom.

Tiara and Don's Wedding
07.12.10

A few weeks ago, Scott and I traveled back to PA to photograph another beautiful wedding. Tiara and Don were married on June 19th in a church in Tiara's hometown of Troxelville, and a reception followed at The Carriage Corner Restaurant in Mifflinburg. We are on a lucky streak with sunny skies for our summer weddings, and Tiara and Don's was no different. It was a wonderful day in every way and we're honored to have been a part of it. Here are a few of my favorites as I'm editing the whole thing. Enjoy!
I started the day with Tiara getting ready. Loved the little sign she made up for the door.
There is something so pretty about a bride-to-be putting on her makeup.
The room she was getting ready in had awesome turquoise walls - a perfect background for Tee's gorgeous silver shoes.
She also had an amazing bouquet and dress.
And all the little details came together to make one absolutely beautiful bride. We photographed Tiara in an outdoor art studio and I was in love with the natural light in there.
Don was looking totally handsome too...
And the ring bearer and flower girl were two of the cutest I've ever seen. I think they were cousins and I just adored them!
Their walk down the aisle was perfection (look at those petals falling!)...
And Don's expression as he watched his bride walk towards him was pretty perfect too. What makes this shot even better is the tears in the eyes of his mom watching from the first pew.
Exchanging vows...
A moment of prayer....
And they're married!
Tee really wanted a ring in the flowers shot, so this is especially for her.
We started the portraits with the wedding party....
And then we did a bunch of the newlyweds alone.
This is one of my faves. Tee, you are stunning, and I love Don's smile and that he is holding your flowers.
So natural. So relaxed. So unforced.
This might be my favorite of the day. The sun setting behind the tree gave us really dreamy light.
The reception started with an emotional slideshow and we were able to capture Tiara and Don's faces as they watched it.
Then there was a little cake smashing...
But they kissed and made up during a sweet first dance.
How could I resist posting one more of these two cuties?? Somehow they smuggled a metal bowl from the kitchen and it was a hit on the dance floor. Way too funny.
A little Cha Cha Slide...how low can you go?
To Tiara and Don, thank you so much for asking us to be your photographers. We are so happy for you! Much love and congratulations again! Hugs~Kris & Scott

My TV Interview on the Evening News
07.08.10

On Tuesday night, The Charlottesville Newsplex had me as a guest on the 6 pm evening news for the "Charlottesville Plugged In" segment with Amy Eastlack of Suzy Said Cville. I got to talk about the July 4th event that I photographed, as well as blogging and how it has changed the industry for photographers.
The Charlottesville Newsplex
I had never been on the news before, and it was so fun being in the newsroom and seeing how it all happens. There were so many cameras on me, and I wasn't sure which one to look at (as you will see if you watch the video), but overall I think it went well and I'm so thankful for the amazing opportunity.
To see the entire 4-minute interview, click on the link below.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, I have a brand new website. I feel like that deserves it's very own blog post, but I can't say that and not share the link, so here it is:

More wedding and family blogs coming really soon! Oh, and some of our 2 girls too for all those who have been asking. :-)

July 4th at McIntire Park
07.05.10

Last night I covered the July 4th celebration and fireworks at McIntire Park here in Charlottesville. At the risk of sounding extremely corny, I must say that it was an absolute blast! ;-) The Charlottesville Newsplex asked me to provide documentary coverage of all the festivities, but most importantly the kids having fun and the beautiful fireworks.
I'm sharing some of my favorite images on the blog, along with a SLIDESHOW, but if you are interested in seeing them all, they are online at the following link (by Tuesday morning July 6th):

Many thanks to Brad Ramsey and the Charlottesville Newsplex for asking me to be there, to my husband Scott for helping me out with the fireworks photos, to my family for watching our 2 daughters during the event, and to all the men and women who serve our country to protect our freedom. God bless the USA.
It was a perfect day for an Independence Day celebration -- not a cloud in the sky!
I had never seen fireworks being set up before. Wow.
You know you're at a Newsplex event when there are lots of balloons for the kids.
And they were definitely a hit. Love how this pretty little girl tied them all to her scooter.
This adorable little guy could throw the ball 40 miles per hour. SO cute!
There were several live bands that played through the night.
And that was really entertaining for the kids and adults alike. Love the smile.
Yes, the smiles were everywhere -- so contagious. Seeing the kids' faces was really magical.
The moon bounces and slides were another big hit...
And so was the food.
Yum, snow cones.
And cotton candy.
My 2 girls even made an appearance in their red, white, and blue.
A fabulous panorama by Scott. Great job babe.
And another one he took. I let him have the tripod so he could do all the cool slow shutter stuff.
It was starting to get dark, and the lines for the moon bounces were getting a little longer (there were almost 20,000 people there)....
But that's okay -- the kids definitely entertained themselves while they waited their turn.
Finally -- a dark sky. And you know what that means.
Fireworks!! This is one of Scott's images.
And this is one of mine. How lucky that this mom and her two boys stood right in front of me!
I had such a great time photographing this event. This little girl's bike sums up my feelings in a nutshell.

A Lifestyle Session at it's Finest
07.02.10

I recently met up with another BEAUTIFUL family -- parents Jessica and Mike, their children Layla and Dominic, and their dogs Teeka and Ivan. I loved working with them, and I can't wait to share some of my favorite images. I called this blog "lifestyle at it's finest" because these are my favorite kind of images -- the kind that are so in the moment and show the most genuine love between parents and their kids (and furkids too!). Lifestyle photography has many definitions, but Wikipedia says it is a style of photography which uses modern techniques such as tight close-ups and shallow depths (as in depth of field) to produce images that are more expressive than traditional portraits. I had actually never googled the definition until today, but I have to say that I think these images fit it perfectly. Happy Friday!
Meet the adorable "J" family.
Little Layla will turn 3 this month. What a little beauty!
I have a ton of favorites of her, but there is something about this one on the tree that I really love. She is one gorgeous little girl.
And baby Dominic is 10 months. Could he be any cuter?!!!
It's easy to see where he gets those gorgeous blue eyes! What a stunning Mommy he has. After we did some relaxed portraits like these...
We really had fun with the candids. First a few with Dad.
The smiles don't get any more real.
Mike said that Dominic liked being upside down, and he really did! He laughed the whole time. Adorable!
Then some fun with Mom. Layla is loving it!
And so is Dominic!
A super cute shot of the kids together -- not always easy to get...
...but easier if you're clicking the shutter FAST. I never hesitate, because the moments that happen when you're waiting for the perfect moment are even more perfect. Love this!
Can't forget the furkids. This is Teeka, their Siberian Husky.
And this is Ivan, their Australian Shepherd.
They were soooo good, especially considering the heat, and I know that Jess and Mike will be so glad they decided to bring them along.
At the very end of the session, I suggested we do just a few of Jess and Mike together.
So we spent about 3 minutes and we were able to get some awesome shots! Jess and Mike made it easy.
To Jessica and Mike, thank you so much for asking me to do these photos for your family. I had so much fun and I hope you love these as much as I do. Hugs ~Kristine
